Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra

Shane Iler

Upon finishing his Master’s degree (2007) from Indiana University for Music Performance, Shane moved to Northern Virginia.  Since then he has performed with several ensembles, but ANCO is his main love.  It is a wonderful outlet for Shane’s preferred medium of playing: Chamber music.  Whether it is Siegfried Idyll, Brahms Trio, or a woodwind quintet, Shane truly enjoys the delicate intricacies required in horn playing to effectively work within these ensembles.

Shane has spent a good amount of time studying natural horn in addition to modern horn.  He participated in an extended, in-depth study, which culminated into a lecture recital.  He believes natural horn greatly enhances a number of skills on modern horn and recommends every horn player experience it.

At Indiana University, Shane had the opportunity to learn and refine his knowledge from some of the most brilliant minds in the music world – Mike Hatfield, Rick Seraphinoff, Cliff Colnot, and David Effron are just a few.  This was the polish he needed after building a strong musical foundation  from the brilliant mentorship of Greg Phillips (Miami University) and Curtis Essig (Louisville Youth Performing Arts School).

Shane is also an active teacher with a number of very talented students.  His students regularly receive spots in district and state bands/orchestras.
